How many Countries are there in the world 2023-24

It is easy to say but very difficult to calculate how many countries there are in the world. According to my estimate, there are 199 countries in the world, but there are some countries which are not included in the UN list. Therefore, the idea of 199 countries is considered wrong. There are about 199 countries in the world, but some of them have been removed from the UN list as non-observer states, the details of which are given below.

Because there are 193 member states in the UN list, while two are non-member observer states. Thus there are two eligible member states that have not been include. Now the problem is that Taiwan and Kosovo are also two independent states why they were not include. Therefore, it is worth mentioning that according to the United Nations list, 193 countries have been establish in the world. If the non-observant states are also include in them, the total world consists of 199 countries.

what countries are in the UN Nations?

  • The non-observant states mentioned in the above paragraph are:
  • There are 193 member countries in the United Nations list.
  • 2 Eligible non-member states (Cook Islands, New Zealand) which are not include in the UN list.
  • 2 Non-observer member states of the General Assembly (Palestine, Holy See) which are not count as member states.
  • 2 Countries not recognize by the United Nations are Taiwan and Kosovo which have not been recognized.

Basically now the end result is that there are 199 countries in the world. But among them, the number of member countries is 193 according to the UN States, whose number is in the UN list.

Six non-UN states countries

  1. Holy See
  2. Palestine
  3. Cook Islands
  4. Niue
  5.  Kosovo
  6. Taiwan

Is Taiwan an independent country

Basically Taiwan is an independent democratic country located in East Asia. However, its status as an independent country is dispute due to China’s claims of sovereignty over the island. So Taiwan operates independently with its own government, economy and military and is recognize as a sovereign state by many countries.

The Chinese Civil War ended in 1949 with Communist forces occupying mainland China, while the Nationalist Kuomintang Party retreated to Taiwan and continued to rule the island. So China continues to claim Taiwan as a province and seeks reunification by force if necessary.

Despite China’s claims, Taiwan has its own government, constitution and democratic elections. Taiwan maintains diplomatic relations with many countries but is not a member of the United Nations due to pressure from China.

Finally, Taiwan is an independent country with its own government, economy and military, but its status as a sovereign state is dispute by China.

Is Kosovo an independent country?

Generally if you’re wondering whether or not Kosovo is a country, the short answer is yes. So Kosovo is a landlocked region in southeastern Europe, located between Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, and North Macedonia. It declare independence from Serbia in 2008 and is recognize as an independent state by more than 110 countries, including the United States and most of the European Union.

However, not everyone recognizes Kosovo’s independence. For example, Serbia still considers Kosovo to be part of its territory and does not recognize its independence. This has created a complicated political situation that is affecting Kosovo’s international status.

In this article, we will delve deeper into the question of whether Kosovo is a country, But explore the political and historical context of the issue, and discuss its implications for Kosovo’s future.

History of Kosovo

Basically Kosovo has a long and complicated history. Thus throughout its history, it has been inhabited by various peoples, including the Illyrians, Romans, Byzantines and Ottomans. So it was incorporate into the Kingdom of Serbia in the late Middle Ages and became part of Yugoslavia after World War II.

During the 1990s, Yugoslavia began to disintegrate, and the Kosovo Albanians, who make up the majority of the population, began to demand greater autonomy and rights. But in 1999, NATO launched a bombing campaign against Yugoslavia to prevent the ethnic cleansing of Kosovo Albanians by Serbian forces. So this resulted in the withdrawal of Serbian forces from Kosovo and the establishment of a United Nations (UN) administration in the area.

In 2008, Kosovo declared independence from Serbia, but its independence was recognized by many countries, including the United States and most EU member states. However, Serbia and some other countries including Russia and China do not recognize Kosovo’s independence.

By this measure, America has historically been a dominant power. It has been a major player in international organizations such as the United Nations and NATO, and its diplomatic corps is one of the largest in the world. However, China is also working to build relationships with other countries through its Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to build infrastructure projects across Asia and beyond.

Conclusion

So, who holds the title of the most powerful country in the world? The answer to this question, like most things in life, is complex. The measures we examined each possess their own strengths and weaknesses, making direct comparisons challenging. Nevertheless, if we were compelled to choose a single country that could be deemed the most powerful overall, it would undoubtedly be the United States. Although China is an emerging force making strides in numerous domains, the United States boasts an unrivaled military, a robust economy, and an extensive legacy of cultural and diplomatic influence. With that being said, there is a delicate balance to maintain.
